At Halloween-time, not only do people become more aware of things that go bump in the night, but many put decorations everywhere. For some of these people, that involves machines that pour out smoke, headstones on their front lawns, scary music floating out of speakers and motion-activated figures that jump out when people walk by. For others of us who live our lives on the Web, though, decorations for Halloween take other forms entirely. That’s because we decorate our online worlds with downloadable art, like vintage Halloween art. Digital images like this lets us embellish PowerPoint presentations, Web sites, blogs, word processing documents and much more, which makes our work and play on the Internet that much more fun.

For scrapbookers, there are even more fun uses for images that can be found on the Internet. There are some wonderful selections of free Halloween paper and paper Halloween masks that can be so useful when telling stories through scrapbooks. These free images help people create who might not be able to afford it otherwise. Believe it or not, that actually helps all of us, because beauty and creativity enhance the world in general.

It’s pretty amazing to see the other types of projects people make with the free Halloween art they find on the Internet too. I’ve seen some really cool altered art projects. These projects were built out of vintage books about Halloween for children that were unbound and rebound, with the addition of blank pages, new images, rhinestones and beads that gave them new lives as funky retro-inspired journals. I’ve also seen Halloween clip art used in jewelry. That’s such a creative use of free resources! Getting those images free really helps jewelry designers who work from home, because they usually make so little profit. Getting as many components free as possible is obviously a real bonus.

If you take a moment to look on the Internet for Halloween crafts people make themselves, I bet you’ll find a lot more examples than I’ve given. They’re probably endless!
